He was demanding her to vacate the 13 number Bunglow at Jaipur. Tiwari, a five time MLA, who has been sidelined by the party even after winning the last election with the highest margin, is alleging that the CM wants to usurp the bunglow. This year, Rajasthan government has enacted a law, which entitles a former CM to stay in a entitled to a bunglow, of a cabinet rank minister. He has also been alleging ‘loot’ during the regime of Raje. He also termed, the CM, the ‘indisciplined queen’. While marching towards Raje’s residence, the 69-year-old leader and his supporters were carrying interesting placards. BJP’s disciplinary committee has showcaused Tiwari. However, the 69-year-old leader was not allowed to protest along with his supporters and were removed from the place.

Termed as appeasement, Mamata bags UN award for Kanyashree

Kolkata: Kanyashree Prakalpa, a pet project of Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, initiated to stop girls dropping out of school and early child marriage, has often been criticized as ‘appeasement’ policy, went on to win the first position at the United Nations Public Service Award in the category, “Reaching out to the poorest of the poor in the society”.

The project launched way back in 2013, is one of the many projects launched by the Bengal chief minister, in which monetary transfers are directly made to the beneficiaries. Under this programme, girls aged 13 to 18 are eligible to receive an annual sum of Rs 750 to pursue her education. Once a beneficiary turns 18, she gets a one-time grant of Rs 25000. This scheme has definitely yielded result in cutting down the number of early marriages in the state. Till date, around 40.33 lakh girls have been benefitted by this scheme.

Minute after the being awarded, Mamata took on to twitter. Her jubilant tweet read, “We are delighted on behalf of our countrymen and the people of Bengal to receive the first prize on @UN Public Service.”

She said, “It is indeed a historic achievement and a proud moment for the people of West Bengal and India.” While her FB post read, “The prestigious award is in recognition of excellence in public service for sustainable development, innovation and our commitment to leave no one behind in the development agenda of our government.”

The UN recognition for this scheme, can be considered a befitting reply from Mamata to her trolls, who often ridiculed her for claiming that Centre’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, scheme had been modeled on Bengal’s Kanyashree.

The award couldn’t even stop opposition from acknowledging Mamata’s work. Her biggest critic, Adhir Choudhary, Bengal state Congress president conceded by saying, “If the United Nations has given this award, then it is appreciable. But then there are other schemes there too. We need to study, how the selection has been made.” On being reminded that earlier UNICEF had also acknowledged the same scheme, he said, “Then it must be appreciated.”

Saradindu Banerjee, president of Kolkata-based NGO space said, “Kanyashree project has now become a ‘global model’ for girl a student, that’s indeed a commendable job done by the state government.”

At a time, when many are doubting the effectiveness of government policies, Bengal’s Kanyashree’s success, shows how a government policy can be turned into a success.

No salary for Jharkhand teachers during maternity leaves

Ranchi: Aarti, who is on maternity leave has become mother recently, but she is very tensed these days. The reason which is spoiling her the happiest moment in life is a phone call from her bank. The bank manager informed Aarti that it has been three months, and loan installments are not being deposited into her account, so it will be under NPA (non-performing asset).

Actually, Aarti is on maternity leave for 26 weeks, but even being a paid one, she is not getting salary since she started availing it.

The Education Department, Jharkhand does not give salaries to its female employees who remain on maternity leave, during the period, and only after six months when she resumes the job, the process of salary begins.

But, all these will now, make Aarti’s loan NPA, and not only she has to pay fine, but her loan credit points will be in negative.

“Then also, it takes more than a month or two to get salary started,” informed Sushmita Banerjee, who resumed job in the month of February and her salary could only get started again in April.

For some others, like Soni, who had taken maternity leave, in 2016, it has been more difficult. Soni, after resuming job, had to sit on dharna, before District Education Officer (DEO), to get her salary started again.

“Which means, you do not get salary, when you need it most. There is surgery cost, and new natal care, and several other expenses of medicines and tests. And as most of the teachers have got bank loans too but even being paid leave, we do not get salary on time,” rued Banerjee.

Like any other state, Jharkhand’s education department has got more number of female employees than any other departments.

According to National Study on Working Conditions of Teachers, Report for Jharkhand published in 2015, there were 33198 regular female teachers for elementary education in Jharkhand in the year 2011-12, and 7984 female regular teachers for secondary classes. There were two more occasions when teachers were recruited on regular basis in Jharkhand, post 2011-12. Additionally, in January 2016, more than thirteen thousand new regular teachers have also joined and among them half are females. Making total number of female regular teachers more than 60,000 thousands in the state.

While, in an estimate, around 500 teachers avail maternity leave across state, every year.

“First we do not get it when we need it most, and thereafter when it get accumulated because of corruption in Jharkhand, babus want commission to clear it,” added Soni.

It’s a similar kind of decision like union government, in which sanitary pad has been taxed, considering the menstrual cycle pain of fairer sex a luxury.

However, there is no such rule in Jharkhand Police, and its employees’ salaries do not get discontinue during maternity leave.

“Our salary did not get discontinued during maternity leave and we never faced such humiliations while being on leave or after resuming job,” claimed Kusum Kumari, a constable.

Ironically, education department’s higher officials have no idea about it, “I have not heard about it, but if it is happening, there must be orders from personal department,” Aradhana Patnaik, Secretary, Human Resource Development (HRD) told eNewsroom, over phone.

When contacted Personal Department, they said, there is no such order, “Maternity leave is a paid leave and like other leaves, in which salary did not get cut, it should also be continued, there is no such order to not to give salary during maternity leave from us,” Sunit Kumar, Under Secretary reacted to eNewsroom.

Note: The names of teachers have been changed on request.

Zafar Khan lynching and Raje’s demise tweet

0

Jaipur: Zafar Khan lynching has not only exposed the Pratapgarh Municipality’s hatred against Muslims, but ignorance of Rajasthan chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also, who used ‘demise’ insisted lynching, murder for Khan,

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOKBgahq5k0[/embedyt]

Raje uses “demise” for Zafar Khan as she fails to uphold her promise

0

Pratapgarh/Jaipur: The tweet of Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje that “The demise of Zafar Khan ji in Pratapgarh is extremely unfortunate. Investigation is on – justice shall prevail, raised many questions than the answers, and sparked outrage on Raje’s response by people across the country, who were expecting no such unkind reaction from the state chief on the lynching incident. Zafar had stopped Pratapgarh Municipal officials from clicking pictures of women defecating in open on Friday Morning, when he was lynched.

When the tweet came, it was two days of the horrific incident, in which a social activist got lynched before his wife and daughter among many others, but police did not arrest anyone.

On Sunday, in her tweet, Raje quoted the tweet of Udaipur IG. The IG, who seems created account only a day back, first used demise word for the lynching and said, “Demise of ZafarKhan is unfortunate. Scientific evidence doesn’t suggest murder. Law will take its course @BDUTT @thesuniljain @ShekharGupta.”

Soon from Congress leader Sachin Pilot to CPI-ML activist Kavita Krishnan, with whose party Zafar Khan was associated, was appalled on  chief minister’s use of word—demise.

The question now arises, if 55-year-old Zafar died while morning walk, does it really matters for thechief of state to even tweet? When dairy farmer Pehlu Khan was lynched by cow vigilants on April 1, it took her 25 days to break silence on the first major lynching episode in Rajasthan.

But the tweet on Zafar reflects in her reply on Pehlu Khan lynching itself. She had claimed that such incidents are not going to be tolerated in the state, but this has occurred again and this time involving government officials. According to social observers the incident was more heinous in nature as it was allegedly instigated by ward commissioner Ashok Jain of Pratapgarh Municipality.

In the earlier story by eNewsroom, deceased’s brother Noor Mohammad had quoted that it was ward commissioner who had ordered the killing of Zafar and later Municipal team officials went berserk on the social activist. Noor had also lodged case and named Ashok.

Today, we are also sharing a video, in which a woman clearly saying that, “Mere Saamne Mara, Mere Saamne Mara (they killed him in front of her, they killed him in front of her).”

“We were waiting for chief minister (Vasundhara Raje)’s action and statement in this regard, but the way she tried to trivialize the lynching, now we have lost the hope of justice,” Noor Mohammad reacted to eNewsroom.

Meanwhile, the four accused who were in custody, released by Pratapgarh police by making the case under section 151 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against them. That they cannot form an assembly of five or more people, which can disturb public peace.

“Maaro isey, bahut neta banta hai ye,” lynching before family but no arresting

0

Pratapgarh:Maaro isey, bahut neta banta hai ye (Kill him, he poses as leader)”, ward commissioner of Kachchi Basti area, Pratapgarh Ashok Jain allegedly told to Pratapgarh Municipal team, and they went berserk on Zafar Khan, a social activist. They did not stop till the activist’s lynching get done.

Brother of Zafar, Noor Mohammad told eNewsroom and added, “The only crime of my brother was that he had stopped Municipal officials clicking pictures of family women and others from defecating in open.”

The 55-year-old Zafar, had recently written to local administration on the issue of municipal officials photographing women defecating in the open. He was also a district committee member of CPI-ML and member of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

“Zafar was socially very active. He had written to administration, requesting them to have toilets built in our area as soon as possible. In his letter to Municipal officials, he had accused them of harassing women defecating in the open, without having provided them with toilets in the kachchi basti (slum) area,” said Nadeem Ansari, an acquitance of Zafar.

However, with the deadline approaching for officials associated with SBA, they paid no need to his request. “On Friday, around 7 in the morning, Zafar stopped nine officials, including the ward commissioner Ashok Jain from photographing defecating women. He was beaten to death on the spot,” he added.

Zafar is survived by two daughters and wife. The elder daughter is married now and younger one is minor. Sabra, 14-year-old and her mother Rashida was among the ladies who were out for defecation and before them, Zafar was beaten to death.

Zafar’s lynching is the second lynching case in Rajasthan, after Pehlu Khan, a 55-year-old dairy owner. Khan had been lynched by gau rakshaks on grounds of cow trafficking in Alwar.

Post Zafar’s lynching, people of the slum area blocked the road and did not allow the administrative officials to conduct the autopsy of the deceased’s body. The protestors were demanding the arrest of the officials, including the ward commissioner. The officials, however, agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh and a contract job to the next of kin. Zafar’s wife has refused to accept the compensation and job as well, is demanding for the arrest of the accused.

During the blockade Prataphgarh police claimed that they have the four accused barring the ward commissioner, in their custody, but even after 36 hours of lynching no one has been arrested.

Ironically, even being witness to the crime, Superintendent of Police, Pratapgarh, Shivraj Meena claimed that they are not sure that death took place because of beating and waiting for autopsy report.

The SP only accepted that they have received a complaint from the brother of Zafar.

Mahendra Choudhary, state secretary of CPI-ML in an statement said that Zafar had written to administration to provide toilets in Kachchi Basti as woman of kachchi Basti, a 250 household, have to face harassment from municipal officials.

Backed by artists, Kolkata cabbie to spread go green message across India

0

Kolkata: Perhaps he drives on the coolest cab in India, which not only has a perfectly green rooftop, but also has a mini garden of a sort created on the tray just behind his cab’s backseat. Meet Dhananjay Chakraborty, a Kolkata-based cabbie, with a difference.

It’s been over two years since Dhananjay aka Bapi has been driving this non-AC taxi on the streets of Kolkata. A green crusader of a sort has not only been providing respite to many of the passengers using his service but also spreading the message of “Going Green” to combat climate change.

What he began as a passion has now become an integral part of his life. His taxi, which he fondly calls his Shobuj Rath or Green Chariot, has now famous. In fact it can safely, be considered as the most eco-friendly taxi in the country.

Road trip to promote “Go Green”

Dhananjoy, who is also known as Gecho Bapi, now runs a non-governmental organisation called Amra Sabuj Sathi (Friends of the Green). It has around 12 members on board, who share the same passion as Dhananjay – saving the environment.

This winter, the Friends of the Green, are committed to fixing up a meet with the President of India. Elaborating on their green mission, he reveals, “We plan to meet the President by the end of this year. We, through the President want to spread the message of going green, across the country.”

Sipping a cup of tea at a tea kiosk in Tollygunge, he elaborately tells eNewsroom, “My ambassador as well as this non-AC yellow taxi (Dhananjay does not own it), will be showcased before the President. The idea to make people understand a small thing, where there is a will, there is a way. Both the vehicles have a neat rooftop terrace lawn, which has a green carpet of Chinese grass adorning it. We will also be meeting school students and clubs on our way to New Delhi.”

As Dhananjay and his team will embark on a road trip, they will distribute leaflets (in English and Hindi) and around 500 saplings to motivate people to plant trees.

Mission Green Gets a Thumbs up

Eminent Kolkata-based artists like Sanatan Dinda, Uday Deb and Partha Dasgupta have come out in support of this initiative. “I will be sketching a few graphite cartoons, highlighting the wrongs that we keep doing unintentionally to the environment. My message will be blatant and hard hitting to the onlooker,” says Uday Deb, an illustrator with Ei Shomoy.

Not without Didi’s Blessings

Dhananjay, who has been invited by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, to participate in the 2015 Durga Puja carnival, is very clear on seeking “Didi’s” blessings before embarking on his journey. He adds, “Didi had made a special effort to showcase my Shobuj Rath before international delegates. I will start my journey to New Delhi, only after getting her blessings.”

Dhananjay’s Green Chariot

His green terrace taxi, has been grabbing a lot of attention. He even has 3000 followers on his Facebook page. Random people mob him with requests of letting them pose with his green chariot. And in exchange all that he demands is that they too plant a tree.

Elaborating on how he got this idea of going green, he candidly reveals, “My friend came across a photograph of a taxi, which had a terrace lawn like the one I have, now. The idea intrigued me a lot and I tried replicating it on my taxi, as I love plants.”

He adds, “Till date I live in a rented accommodation, but that hasn’t stopped me from planting plants. This taxi of mine is a message to everyone that they should plant trees, as many as they can. If I can make my cab a green car, then why can’t you.”

CPI-Maoist too demands judicial probe into Baske’s encounter

0

Ranchi: It’s not just Motilal Baske’s family, villagers and political parties demanding justice in the controversial encounter. Now, CPI-Maoist has also demanded judicial inquiry into the killing of Baske.

The banned outfit issued a press communiqué, which states that Baske was killed in a fake encounter. It further said, that the tribal man, gunned down by Jharkhand Police was not even a simple member associated with the group, leave aside the theory of him being member of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).  PLGA is the armed unit of CPI-Maoist, which engages in activities of attacking on police and government.

The outfit has also demanded action to be taken against the accused officers.

JMM raises the issue in Ranchi

The moment is getting stronger. The voices are getting louder.

Jharkhand Mukhti Morcha’s (JMM) Giridih unit led by Sudiv Kumar Sonu, reached Ranchi today along with Parvati Murmu, widow of Baske to meet former chief minister Hemant Soren. In the press met Soren has demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakhs, a government job for Baske’s kin and appropriate punishment for those accused.

The JMM’s Rajya Sabha MP Savjiv Kumar, who was present at the conference, told eNewsroom over the phone, “JMM is very serious about this inhuman act. We will soon be raising this issue in the Rajya Sabha. We will also approach the National Human Rights Commission.”

Kumar, who is also a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court, also claimed that they may move to the Apex Court if required.

While CPI-ML observed protest day across district and demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the deceased family.

Baske was collecting wood, when killed

The communiqué released by North Chotanagpur Zonal Committee of CPI-Maoist, validated that the Jharkhand police did attack them, but none from their group had been killed. It also narrates in detail, how Baske, a poor labour, who was accidentally present on the spot, got killed. The communiqué even expressed surprise at Jharkhand Police’s Director General, rewarding the police for a fake encounter.

The two pages communiqué narrates, “When the encounter took place, Baske wearing a lungi and a banyan, was chopping woods with his axe. On realizing that firing was taking place in the vicinity, he fled, but was gunned down by the police.” It further adds, “After killing Baske, the officers were heard chanting – Jai Hind, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, which sounded like khisiyani billi khamba nochey (police shouting out of frustration). DGP DK Pandey rewarding the police for killing an innocent poor man, sound so sad,” the letter said.

“It is act of cowardice. It is a brutal murder,” further read the leaflet issued by the banned outfit.

Jharkhand tribal ‘naxal’ leader’s encounter termed fake

Giridih/Ranchi: The news of CPI- Maoist leader Motilal Baske, being gunned down by Jharkhand Police in an encounter had gone viral recently. This encounter, as claimed by the Jharkhand police, was a prized one. However, villagers and political parties are now raising serious question on the entire theory of the police, and termed it fake. Baske, they claim, was a simple labour, who ferried pilgrims at the Parasnath Hills.

Since the time of united Bihar, Parasnath hills have been safe zone for naxals operating in the region. Not only it connects from Orissa to Chattisgarh, but it has been training center for the Maoists also.

Recently, Jharkhand police announced that by the end of 2017, Parasnath Hills would no longer be a safe corridor for Communist Party of India (CPI) – Maoist. The declaration come from none other than the Director General of Police, DK Pandey.

Within few days of it, on June 9, Giridih police claimed that they had an Tribal’s Fake Encounter with CPI-Maoist members at Dholkata. This area  falls under Pirtand police station. During this encounter, they claimed that one person (Baske) had been killed, and a lot of weapons as well as an SLR had been recovered from his possession.

Jharkhand Tribal’s Fake Encounter, the police was unable to identify the dead body, initially. They got to discover his identity, after day of having him gunned down. The police, however, stood firm on their stand that Baske was a CPI-Maoist leader.

Post encounter, DGP Pandey not only inspected the spot, but also felicitated Giridih police.

Jharkhand Tribal’s Fake Encounter

Forty-eight-year-old Baske, survived by three children and a wife was a resident of Dholkatta village and ran a small shop. He earned a few extra bucks by working as ferry or dolli majdoor at the Parasnath hills.

Baske, a member of the Majdoor Sangathan Samiti (MSS), a body recognises labours working in the Parasnath hills also had an Aadhar card. Unlike Maoists, he even had a Voter Id card and an account with the Bank of India.

“He was a beneficiary of the Indira Awas Yoja and withdrew his first installment this year,” informed Buddhan Hemburm, vice president of Marang Buru organization.

Soon after the incident, MSS called for a meeting, declaring that Baske was not a Maoist. They maintained that the police killed him in cold blood, when he was returning home after ferrying pilgrims.

Later even CPI-ML backed the claim. Following which support from political parties like the Jharkhand Mukhti Morcha (JMM) and Jharkhand Vikash Morcha (JVM) came in.

“On June 15, we will be organizing protest march in every block of Giridih. We want justice for Baske and his family,” said Rajesh Sinha, a CPI-ML leader.

Fake Encounter
Villagers and political parties met to decide over action against the alleged encounter of Baske

JMM leader Sudiv Kumar Sonu even termed the encounter as an “institutional murder”. He also arranged a conference call, to initiate a talk between former chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren and Baske’s wife. Soren, has agreed to help her.

MSS and various political parties had called for a Maha Panchayat in Pirtand, on June 14. To create political pressure, a Giridih bandh has been called on June 17.

“He had gone to the shop. And had promised to bring woods in the evening,” said Parvati Murmu, his wife. She even lodged an FIR at Pirtand police station after the maha panchayat got over. In her complaint, she has maintained that her husband was innocent and had been killed by the police in a fake encounter. She even demanded for stern action to be taken against the accused police officials.

“We had to force the reluctant officials to give a receiving copy to Bakse’s family. Tomorrow, we will be registering a case in court,” Rajesh added.

When eNewsroom contacted Akhilesh Variar, Giridih’s superintendent of police, he refused to comment on the issue.
