Kolkata: After the remission of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang rape and murder case on the 75th Independence Day of India, protests have erupted in several parts of India. From national capital Delhi, financial capital Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Varanasi to Giridih people hit the streets against the release of the rapists and murderers in the Bilkis Bano case.

During Gujarat Riots 2002, at least 14 members of Bilkis Bano’s family were gang raped and murdered. Among them was a 3-year-old daughter of Bilkis who was smashed to the wall, leading to the kid’s death. Bilkis and her mother were gang-raped in front of each other.

But, even after such heinous crimes, the criminals were released on Independence Day this year by the Gujarat government under its remission policy.

Kavita Krishnan, who attended a protest at Jantar Mander, New Delhi said in her speech that it was not remission but a reward for rapists and killers. She mentioned that it has been done to give a message that if you will rape a Muslim woman, you will be saved and rewarded.

The activist who had played a major role during the Nirbhaya agitation, said to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak on the Bilkis Bano issue and apologies to the nation

Earlier, 6000 people across India condemned the remission and demanded Supreme Court to intervene.
