Kolkata: After civil society and Trinamool Congress, twelve Left-wing student unions hit the streets of Kolkata on Tuesday to protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The students not only held torch march but also chanted slogans in favour of Muslims and their citizenship rights.

Earlier, students of Presidency University had protested before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Kolkata office, during which they held sections of the Constitution, implying that BJP leaders should first read India Constitution.

Talking to eNewsroom, Bablu Roy of SFI said that every Muslim residing in India has the right to be called Indians and enjoy the benefits like any other citizens.

“The colour of the blood is red. It doesn’t change with religion, caste, and creed. BJP leaders think that their blood is saffron so they are different from every other human being. But they should immediately stop their unlawful policies that they are forcefully implementing as they have the majority,” added Roy.

Chanting slogans in favour of the minorities, Krishanu Ghosh of PSU said Bengal has always been a heaven for every community and that the saffron camp just to hide their misgovernance and hence is trying to divert the attention of the common people.

“The government officials whoever comes to check out documents will be shunned by us. We won’t allow anyone to enter our house. The torch we are carrying today is the symbol that we will burn everyone who tries to take away our citizenship. The BJP government knows that they won’t be re-elected again so they are forcefully implementing their unlawful policies. Prime minister Narendra Modi and his close aide Union Home Minister is behaving like Adolf Hitler, but they are forgetting the power of unity of the common people,” reiterated Ghosh.

The rally started from Esplanade and ended at Sealdah station, turned into a huge gathering. Addressing to the crowd, Indrajit Lahiri of SFI stated that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose believed in freedom by hook or by crook and after 72 years of Independence, the people of Bengal should lead other states in defeating tyrant BJP government the way Netaji had shown.

“Peace can be regained after we fight a situation. By mere protest rallies, NRC cannot be stopped. Everyone should be ready to fight the tyrant government to regain freedom. BJP leaders say Bharat Mata ki Jai, but they don’t work anything to uplift the status of the country. BJP government slams other political parties but they, themselves are not addressing serious issues like growing unemployment, price rises, and shutdown of several industries. Instead, they are playing vote bank politics to secure their position. But their ignorance on the serious issues will lead to their downfall,” said Lahiri also adding that the Left Front and it’s allied parties are ready to fight back every situation to ensure the safety of common people in the state and also across the country.

At a time when the Bengal BJP is taking out rallies celebrating the passing of CAB in the parliament, all other political parties from most of the states are taking out protest rallies condemning the act of implementation of NRC in India.

Speaking on the recent attack on the students by police in Jamia Milia University, an SFI leader (who didn’t want to be named) said that all the students across the country should come out on streets to mark protest against the barbaric and inhuman act of the BJP controlled police in the national capital.
